She now works as a medical practitioner at Children's Hospital Colorado.

In addition to his announcement about retirement, other awards were given on Tuesday night. Valmai Dempsey was named Senior Australian of the Year, and she's a devoted volunteer for the St John Ambulance. She has been volunteering for more than 50 years, including in the black summer bushfires.
